Lapis Vivus
While exploring the upper atmosphere, I discovered this peculiar specimen. It had been caught by our planet's gravity in low earth orbit. It must have been here for quite some time since there are a few native species of lichen attached. It can only be described as a living rock. An entire thriving ecosystem appears to be inhabiting a solid fossilized and crystalline core. Its ability to sustain life in such harsh conditions is still a mystery to me. More analasys is necessary.
This is a functional piece that can be used for tobacco or can exist as a sculpture. I wanted to create a sculptural piece that looked like an organic lump of rock that's been collecting various lifeforms for millions of years.
